Literacy Coordinator (Part -time)

Cranbrook School is looking for an enthusiastic teacher to lead whole-school literacy in a way that makes a real difference to learners. You will plan and deliver targeted support through small-group teaching and individual tuition, helping pupils with SEND and those with EAL to succeed.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead and embed a whole-school literacy strategy, aligned to the SEF and kept under regular review.
  • Ensure consistency across subjects using evidence-informed approaches.
  • Deliver targeted interventions for pupils who need additional literacy support (including handwriting where appropriate).
  • Use data and evidence to identify priorities, measure impact and adapt provision.
  • Support pupils’ access to literacy tools (including Read Write / Exam Write) and appropriate laptop use.
  • Help strengthen staff practice through guidance and resources, so literacy is supported across the curriculum.

Additional responsibilities

  • Work closely with senior leaders, Heads of Department and pastoral teams.
  • Liaise with parents/carers and external agencies where appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow safeguarding procedures and school policies.

What we’re looking for

Essential

  • QTS.
  • Strong understanding of literacy development across phases.
  • Experience delivering targeted literacy interventions.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including pupils with complex learning needs.
  • Confidence using technology to support learning and outcomes.
  • Understanding of emotional literacy and its impact on learning and wellbeing.

Desirable

  • Experience leading or contributing to a whole-school literacy strategy.
  • Experience using assistive technology.
  • Experience with SEND assessment processes.
